They were said to possess the gift of prophecy, and to be skilled in the use of magic. It was believed that they were descended from the Milesians, who were one of the great families that came to Ireland in ancient times. They were said to be the first people to build the round towers of Ireland, which were tall, cylindrical structures used as bell towers for churches and monasteries.
